Parasitic infections tortoises of genus \kur{Testudo} with a focus on apicoplexa
ŽAHOUREK, Jakub
This bachelor thesis deals with the spectrum and frequency of parasitic infections in Testudo tortoises in breeding in the Czech Republic. In the first section of the theoretical part I focus on the biology, biogeography, ecology, and morphology, the understanding of which is important for breeding these very special animals. Further on, I mention the specific methodology of breeding linked to the demands of tortoises of their environment, nurture, and behavioural manners. In the second section of the theoretical part I focus on parasites that often infect herbivorous reptiles. In my thesis, I have focused on parasites within the Apicomplexa phylum that are currently being paid significantly closer attention in veterinary medicine. 143 samples of droppings gathered throughout 2020 by twelve different breeders have been examined. Samples were examined using sedimentation and flotation method together with which Sheater sugar solution was used. Out of a total of 92 % samples were marked as positive with developmental stages of parasitic elements also known as helmints. Out of the gathered data, I constructed a spectrum of parasites of the complete family and individual species including their frequency and strength of infection in individual parasites.
LEGO Mindstorms: Didactic utilization in mathematics with a focus on fractals
Čadek, Jan ; Jančařík, Antonín (advisor) ; Pilous, Derek (referee)
TITLE: LEGO Mindstorms: Didactic utilization in mathematics with a focus on fractals ABSTRACT: The objective of this thesis is to determine whether the teaching of fractal geometry supported by computer and robotic LEGO Mindstorms NXT has its place in the education of primary and secondary schools pupils in the Czech Republic. The theoretical part focuses on key topics and personalities closely connected to fractal geometry problematics. It provides a brief historical overview of the fractal geometry development, its potential use in teaching mathematics (with reference to Turkish curriculum documents), and a description of LEGO Mindstorms NXT which can well serve as a manual for teachers and pupils. The practical part contains instructions for building a robotic turtle as well as a proposal of teaching block aimed to support pupils' algorithmic and geometric thinking including key competencies. Quantitative comparison of the results taken from Turkish studies and evaluation of the project by the author and pupils are a part of the experiment as well. KEYWORDS: LEGO Mindstorms NXT, fractal, programming, Logo, learning by doing, turtle, Papert, L-system, microworlds
Turtles (Testudines) - their Occurence and Breeding in the Czech Republic
Chotěborová, Tereza ; Andreska, Jan (advisor) ; Hanel, Lubomír (referee)
Bachelor thesis titled "Turtles" (Testudines) - their occurrence and breeding in the Czech Republic was primarily conceived as a research. The objective of this study is to create an information unit about turtles and is divided into several specific areas such as history, origin, anatomy and physiology, occurrence, breeding and diseases. The thesis compares the knowledge of turtles from available resources. KEY WORDS: reptiles, turtle, breeding, red-eared slider (Trachemys scripta elegans)
Seasonal rhythms and hibernation of European turtles as a problem for their breeders
Tocauerová, Štěpánka ; Vrabec, Vladimír (advisor) ; Vejtrubová, Markéta (referee)
The thesis is focused on the seasonal activity of the European terrestrial turtles, which can be kept in captivity. The following species have been dealt with: Testudo hermanni, Testudo graeca, Testudo marginata and Testudo horsfieldii. The analysis was supposed to confirm the hypothesis that the species that lives that the turtle species living in the north is also the species with the least requirements when it comes to the microclimatic conditions. The first chapter deals with the characteristics of these species. Both their Czech and Latin name is listed, the most famous subspecies classified, so are the most famous subspecies, the area where they occur is described and their appearance, including the typical features, what they feed on, how they reproduce, what conditions they require if they are to be bred and how endangered they are. The next part deals with the seasonal rhythms of the turtles. The year is divided into several seasons or phases, i. e. the post-hibernation phase, spring, summer, pre-hibernation phase and hibernation. In each phase there is a description of both the active and passive behaviour of the turtle and of the way this behaviour is influenced by the time of sunshine, air temperature, rainfall or other factors. Examples of specific turtle behaviour that has been observed in different areas of the Mediterranean Sea, where they can be observed in the nature are given. What follows is a general characteristics of the hibernation and estivation and an explanation of the difference between the two. The next chapter deals with the conditions for the turtle hibernation as a part of the breeding process, such as the preparation of the turtles for the hibernation and the ways to help them do so safely in our country. Some of the turtle keepers' opinions on this important subject, the right way of hibernation can influence other important physiological processes of the turtles are mentioned. Then the recommended conditions for turtle breeding in our country are described. The final chapter is charted information about the chosen turtle species ( the size of the shell, the height above the sea level in which they occurr, whether they hibernate or estivate and whether they are listed in the Red Book of Endangered Species and the CITES lists. The analysis of the informaton that has been collected shows that the hypothesis that was formulated in the beginning of the thesis can be almost confirmed and that the Testudo hermanni seems to be species that is the easiest to breed indeed.
Výzkum ekologie a rozšíření‚ návrh managementu populací a záchranných programů zvláště chráněných druhů živočichů: Projekty aktivní podpory ohrožených živočichů v České republice
Agentura ochrany přírody a krajiny ČR, Praha ; Nová, Petra ; Marhoul, Pavel ; Kumstátová, Tereza
Hodnocení celostátně koordinovaných projektů a dále všech, u kterých došlo k jakýmkoliv reintrodukcím. Projekty byly věnovány těmto živočichům: vodní měkkýši, rak říční, motýli, blanokřídlí, ryby, obojživelníci, želva bahenní, ještěrka zelená, ostatní plazi, užovka stromová, hohol severní, drop velký, tetřev hlušec, čáp bílý, moták lužní, puštík bělavý, sova pálená, sýček obecný, sýc rousný, ledňáček říční, netopýři, sysel obecný, bobr evropský, vydra říční a rys ostrovid.
Animal ceramic sculpture
ZBYTOVSKÁ, Ivana
The master{\crq}s thesis is divided into three parts. The introductory part is concerned with the turtle from a professional viewpoint. The historical development and symbolism of this creature are dealt with, as well as palaeontological findings and relevant bits of interesting information. The following chapters are primarily practical. This practical work on the ceramic sculpture, though, is also based on the study of relevant literature. The third part provides a photodocumentation to the text. It features the final product as well as the process of its creation.
